Configuring Your Appliance for the First Time

Ensure that the Email Appliance is powered off.

Make sure you have the following:

Desktop or laptop machine with the following minimum specifications: 1 GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, a mouse, a keyboard, and a network card
Hostname for the appliance
IP address for appliance
Primary MX record, IP address, fully qualified DNS
Hostname and IP address of the mail server (MDA)
Recipient domains
IP addresses and hostnames of all systems allowed to relay in and out of the appliance
Activation code received by email (required to register the appliance)
1 U of rack space in a 2/4 post 19" rack
2 power outlets, preferably on different circuits

Connect the Internal Configuration Interface (the onboard ethernet port) to your laptop's ethernet port.

On your laptop, set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the IP address to any address in the ranges of 172.24.24.1 to 172.24.24.171, and 172.24.24.173 to 172.24.24.254.

Note: Do not use the address 172.24.24.172, because it is reserved for the appliance.

Point your browser to https://172.24.24.172:18080/

After reviewing the list of Known Issues, use the Configuration Wizard to set up the Email Appliance.
